At Blue Collar Engineering, we recently embarked on a custom project to enhance workplace safety and efficiency – the development of a turn-key cantilevered mobile ladder. This undertaking involved the entire spectrum of operations, from design and engineering to manufacturing, as we aimed to provide a comprehensive solution for our client's unique needs.
The Challenge: A Need for Safe and Accessible Solutions
The motivation behind this project was to address a critical challenge faced by workers in the production environment. Currently, employees find themselves resorting to unsafe practices, such as climbing on equipment or leaning over the railing of a standard ladder, to access equipment that was previously out of reach. Recognizing the risks involved, we explored existing options in the market, only to discover that available cantilevered ladders fell short in meeting our customer's specific requirements.
Our in-depth research revealed that the cantilevered ladders on the market either didn't match the required size, lacked complete stainless steel construction, or couldn't bear the weight needed for the task at hand.
In-House Design and Manufacturing: Meeting Every Requirement
Undeterred by the limitations of the market, we made the decision to design and manufacture the cantilevered mobile ladder in-house. This strategic move allowed us to tailor every aspect of the ladder to meet the unique needs of our customer. The following stringent requirements were set and successfully met:
1. High-Quality Design and Construction Without the Additional Cost
As we toured production facilities throughout the state, one thing became evident: there was room to enhance the quality of stainless steel ladders, stairs, and platforms. Through the incorporation of sturdier construction materials and high-grade casters, this cantilevered ladder exudes reliability, making it ideal for industrial applications.
2. Fully Stainless Steel Construction: Resisting Rust, Ensuring Durability
At Blue Collar, we prioritized the longevity and resilience of our cantilevered mobile ladder by opting for a fully stainless steel construction. This choice ensured our ladder's resistance to rust, even in demanding industrial environments, contributing to a longer lifespan and sustained performance.
Despite encountering various stainless steel ladders in the market, we noticed that many fell short due to inferior casters and/or caster mounts as well as the use of galvanized carbon steel counterweights. To prevent the risk of galvanic corrosion between different metals, such as galvanized steel and stainless steel, we designed a counterweight solution entirely free of carbon steel.
3. Height and Overhang Capability: Reaching New Heights Safely
Our cantilevered mobile ladder overcomes the challenge of accessing equipment by measuring 7’-6” tall from floor to bottom of the overhanging walkway and overhanging 3’-6”. Our meticulous design provides a safe and reliable solution for our customer navigating and reaching elevated equipment effortlessly.
4. Weight Capacity: A Sturdy Walkway for Every Task
Safety is paramount, and at Blue Collar Engineering, we ensure that our cantilevered mobile ladder can safely support 300 lbs. This robust weight capacity guarantees stability and reliability for our customers carrying out various tasks and enhancing overall workplace safety.
5. OSHA Compliance: Adhering to the Highest Standards
We prioritized adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards throughout the design and manufacturing process. Our cantilevered mobile ladder is not only a practical solution but also a testament to our unwavering commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
